This initiative Report follows the previous European Parliament resolutions on the Review of the European Neighbourhood Policy-Eastern Dimension and on Review of the European Neighbourhood Policy- Southern Dimension of 7 April 2011 (B7-0198/2011 and B7-0199/2011), the first of them being done by Marek Siwiec and the second one by Mário David and the Commission - HR/VP joint communications of last 25th May and of 8th March.

Because of its academic and political importance, the European Neighbourhood Policy was one of the main themes on the Jean Monnet Conference of this year and Mário David MEP was one of the key speakers, closing the 2011 Conference wich had the title: "Jean Monnet Seminar - Evolutions in the Southern Mediterranean: Implications for the European Union".
