On the 10th of December, at the Congress in Bonn, we will elect the new Presidency of our European People's Party.

For that occasion, my Party, the Portuguese PSD, has given me the honour to present my candidature for a second term as Vice-President of our Party.

Over the past 3 years, it has been for me a pleasure to serve the EPP and its political project for the construction of a better, stronger and more united Europe. We all shared in last June the joy but also the sense of responsibility for having the trust of the majority of our citizens. These are 5 years in which we must in the European Parliament and all over Europe defend and execute our program and ensure that, at the end of our term, Europeans recognize us again as the real driving force for Europe.

The entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon and the appointment of the new European Commission, under the leadership of José Manuel Barroso, will bring new reasons and impetus to fight for the values and goals that we share, to build this unique project of voluntary sharing of sovereignty which is the European Union.

Allow me to add that I am the only Iberian candidate for the Vice-Presidency. As it will be a privilege to serve once again the European People’s Party and all of its members, I take the liberty to ask for your support and your vote.
